US Too! Never Paid, NPCC Says

April 3, 2001. PSA Rising, New York. John A. Page, FHIMSS, Executive Director / CEO of US TOO! International announced Sunday that his organization had notified the National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC) that it will not continue its membership in the coalition. Us Too! was a founding member of NPCC in 1996.

"Although we continue to support many of the efforts of NPCC, the Us Too! Board of Directors has chosen to focus our finite resources and attention on our core mission - education and support of prostate cancer survivors, their families and men at risk - including increased programs and expenditures directed at the minority and medically underserved communities," Page said. "We will also continue to increase focus on our historic goals of enhancing prostate cancer awareness and increased screening for early detection and early diagnosis," he said.

"In order for Us Too! to be more effective in serving men, their families and those at risk," Page said, "we cannot be all things to all people." "With their Washington D.C. office and lobbying staff," he said, "NPCC can play a valuable role in keeping the pressure on the Federal government. Our focus has always been more individual, local and regional."

US Too! will continue to provide NPCC "and other activist organizations," Page said, "with the grassroots strength necessary for effective advocacy with legislative and regulatory agencies, as well as important non- governmental entities." HUS Too! will "actively support research aimed at curing prostate cancer and improving the lives of men (and their families) who are afflicted with this disease," Page said.

"We let NPCC know that we will continue to work with them on those efforts which support our mission and which are important to the prostate cancer community. It is our hope that NPCC will also join us in our continued efforts to increase awareness and enhance early detection - efforts which we feel are today's best chances to save lives," Page said.
