Early Detection 1

 

Think about about getting check-ups for early detection of prostate cancer if you are

A man age 50 or more who can expect to live at least 10 years

A man age 40-50 who is African-American or who has a family history of prostate cancer

   
   
  What tests do you need to start out?  
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and Digital rectal exam (DRE)
   
   
  Test results  

 
 
One or more results is abnormal   Both test results are normal
 
 
Possible causes:
prostate cancer, BPH, prostatitis
  Return regularly for
PSA and DRE testing
 
 
For definitive (best) diagnosis:
get prostate biopsy
Biopsy negative
   
   
Biopsy positive Get Treatment
