BENDIGO Mining employees helped raise over $850 for research into Prostate Cancer by growing moustaches last month.
The fundraiser was part of Movember, a fundraising event held during November each year to raises awareness about male health issues and money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Mine Geologist Matt Hernan organised the fundraiser and said he was given the idea from a mate he previously worked with at another mine.
“I got the email at the start of the month and I thought, `that’s a great idea’, so I sent the email around and rustled up a few blokes,” he said.
Mr Hernan said the best comment concerning his moustache came from a shift boss.
“He said that mine looked like my eyebrows just popped down for a drink,” he said.
Movember raised over $600,000 Australia-wide and will help medical researchers in their search to find a cure for prostate cancer.
